How to Play Tic-Tac-Toe

1. You and your opponent are assigned X and O. X plays first.
2. Take turns marking empty squares on the 3×3 grid.
3. The first player to line up three of their marks — in a row, column, or diagonal — wins the match.
4. If all nine squares fill up with no three-in-a-row, the match is a draw and both entry stakes are refunded.

The Winning Strategy

Tic-Tac-Toe is a solved game — meaning perfect play from both sides always results in a draw. But most players make mistakes. Here's how to punish them:

1. Take the center

The center square is part of four winning lines — more than any other square. Always take it if you can.

2. Play a corner as X

If you're X and the center is available, opening with a corner creates more forks than opening with an edge.

3. Build forks

A "fork" is a move that creates two winning threats at once. Your opponent can only block one — you win on the next turn. This is how you actually beat humans.

4. Block immediately

If your opponent has two in a row with an open end, block it. Every time. Most losses come from forgetting this one rule.
